On November 3rd 2007 the Minnesota Science Olympiad Advisory Board approved the rules governing multiple teams Regional and State competitions. The following rules were adopted:
- A school may field one or more teams
at the Regional competitions
- All teams competing at regional competitions must be registered with the state organization and have a unique coach.
- Each team's coach is responsible for running an event (being the creator
of the test, judge, etc) at the region meet. If a school has 3 teams, for
example, there will be 3 different coaches running 3 different events.
- Each school may send only one team to the state competition where the regional competitions are used to qualify for the state competition (this currently applies to C division where not all teams qualify for the state competition).
- Student movement between teams is unrestricted with the exception that all teams must follow the national rule limiting seniors on any team to seven students.
